Our Story

Since 1986, the Moose Fraternity has been actively supporting the Youth Awareness Program. The program consists of high school students presenting Kids Talks to educate and inspire other younger students. These presentations challenge the high school students to choose a topic of their choice, develop a lesson plan, schedule presentations, and present. The Youth Awareness Program provides the high school students opportunities to practice life skills, such as organization, research, time management, communication, and mentorship.

The Virginia Moose Association awards $2,000 educational scholarships to selected state delegates that may be used at regionally accredited trade schools, colleges, and universities. Additional rewards may also be provided to all participants who complete the program.

Key areas of the program are:

    Students have the freedom to develop their lesson for the audience, who are ages 4-9.
    A life skill that challenges the high school student to plane under a time-line. This teaches time management and utilizing time wisely to plan the presentation and present.
    Students start conquering the fear of speaking publicly early on in life and the presentation helps them get out of their comfort zone.
    The Kids Talk reports must be individualized and contain a detailed summary of each presentation that explains the lesson. audience’s response, and how the experience could be improved
    It gives the high school participants a chance to travel and make new friends while having the chance to earn scholarships in a safe, secure, well-planned event out of their own will.
    Different Moose Association members bid to host the International Student Congress. It gives individual associations within the Moose Fraternity the opportunity to show fun and historic sites in and around the hosting city. The International Student Congress is a well-planned and chaperoned event. The Moose Association members hosting the event this event plans all meals, activities, and hand select chaperones that go through an extensive background check. THe Youth Awareness Chairman also gathers information regarding food and drug allergies to ensure the health and safety of each participant so first-time attendees and parent/guardians don’t have to worry.
